Chapters 4

Chapter 4 - Reading critically

Critically reading a source means questioning what a source says and thinking about what it means. It helps make sense of a source. it is not the same as evaluating a source which is used to determine how reliably a source prevents its information.
Develop a position statement based off your research question by brainstorming or free writing.
Reading actively is interacting with sources and considering them based on the conversations you've joined. Mark sources, annotate sources, and take notes.
Identify primary and secondary sources. Then identify the main points, reasons, consider the use of evidence (appeals), identify interpretive frame work (trends, causal, data, and text analysis).
Read sources you identify as good 3 times. First skim, then read actively, then reread important passages.

Chapter 4 will help me make sense and organize all of the information i will be collecting for my argumentative research paper. It delineates a variety of ways to effectively and efficiently utilize all the information I have been and will be collecting. Reading critically helps determine how much use i can get out of a source, as well as what information I will be including in my research.
