5 sources with evaluation 10/7

1. a. Hughes, J.D. "Easter Island: Model for Environmental History?" Capitalism, Nature, Socialism 14.2 (2003): 77. Proquest Research library. Web. 7 Oct. 2014.
b. It discusses the agricultural history of Easter Island which is pertinent to its collapse.
c. It is a well supported argument that uses some of the same sources I will be using. I can use it to support my argument that environmental factors such as what resources they had available was an instrumental part of Easter Islands collapse. I can use this article to help narrow down my topic.
d. The author is well versed and uses credible sources that I have also read which leads me to accept his argument.
e. This was published in 2003, after Kon Tiki by Thor Hyerdahl. Which impacts one of my prospective sources as it mentions scholarly articles that have determined Thor Hyerdahls thesis incorrect. Thus I will no longer be using that other source.
f. It is really easy for me to understand and follow along. Thus it is more useful than an article that I dont understand.
g. The document is a scholarly article with a bibliography in the form of footnotes that i can use to find other sources, which will be useful when i need more sources.
h. The readers need to understand how Easter island was colonized and what they had to start with in order to understand why it collapsed.
i. This article helped me come up with the research question how it was colonized and what did they have to work with.  I will use this source to expand on my argument.

2. a. Hunt, Terry L., and Carl P. Lipo. "revisiting Rapa Nui (Easter Island) "Ecocide"1." Pacific science 63.4 (2009): 601-16. Proquest Research Library. Web. 7 Oct. 2014.
b. It discusses the destruction of the environment on Easter Island and how it pertains to their collapse.
c. The argument is well supported by a large bibliography/works cited page and is very relevant to my research project.
d.The authors worked together and utilized a variety of credible sources which would lead me to accept a lot of their arguments.
e. This was published in 2009 which makes it more recent than some of my other sources. I can use it to compare the information from my other sources to, to ensure my other sources arent outdated.
f. It is easy enough to understand but goes into a lot of detail. In order to fully understand this article i will
have to read it multiple times to understand it completely.
g. This is an argumentative research paper, and although i may alter my subject matter, the genre provides an excellent example layout.
h.This article uses a lot of signaling phrases, citations, and is well structured. The information will help teach my readers what they need to know, and the structure will provide an example for me to lead my readers through my writing.
i. I'm going to use this source for its information/facts, bibliography, and as an example paper.

3. a. Hunt, Terry. "Rethinking the Fall of Easter Island." (2014). American Scientist. Web. 2 Oct. 2014.
b. This article goes over both past and present investigations regarding the fall of Easter Island. which is important as I need to know what is current and what scientific theories have been proved correct or incorrect.
c. The argument is well supported. I can use it to show both past and present arguments regarding the fall of Easter Island.
d. This author worked on the above article, cites many sources I will be referring too such as Jarred Diamond, and is very logical with his argument thus i accept his argument.
 e. This was published in 2014, and as it is regarding the past and present beliefs of the collapse of Easter Island, I would not have accepted it if it was written years ago. Thus it made me more accepting of the article.
f. The article is easy to follow along with and very well organized. Thus it will be easy for me to pinpoint the questions he asks, the information he presents, and the other sources i should review.
g. This is primarily a research paper which makes it easy for me to collect information about my topic.
h. This source will help me clarify what arguments are valid regarding why Easter Island collapsed which is important for my readers so they can understand me.
i. I will use this source to compare past and present article to in order to determine their relevance.

4. a. Diamond, Jarred M. Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Survive. London: Penguin Books, 2006.
b. This book is all about the collapse of various societies and has an entire section dedicated to Easter Island.
c. I can use this as a tool to narrow down the focus of the geographical influences that led to the collapse of Easter Island. it is well supported and well known in the scholarly community. It will be one of my main tools for developing my argument.
d. This author is cited in a large number of my other sources, through this book and his other book Guns Germs and Steel. He is well known and respected among the scientific community. I hold him in a very high regard.
e. It was published in 2006, so I will have to compare it to more recent studies.
f. His book is very well organized and easy to understand which will make it easy for me to utilize all the information, questions, various arguments and view points in his book accordingly.
g. It is a research book, which means it has a lot more information than just an article. It will be one of the more useful sources because it goes much further in depth.
h. This source is widely known among the scientific community and will help me ensure I present enough information. It might also interest my readers seeing information from someone so renown.
i. I am going to use this as a key informational source.

5. a. Trachtman, Paul. "The Secrets of Easter Island: The More we Learn About the Remote Island from Archaeologists and Researchers the More Intriguing it Becomes." Smithsonian Magazine. (2002). Web. 2 Oct. 2014.
b. It discusses a lot of the culture and other aspects that may have contributed to its collapse.
c. There are not as many citations as I would like to see, thus I haven't been able to determine how well supported the argument is.
d. The author seems a little scattered with this article. Which leads me to question his arguments.
e. The original publication date was 2002 however it was edited in 2009 to be published in a bookazine from the smithsonian. The information has been updated which is a good sign.
f. It is hard to follow so I will not be able to use it as a primary source for information.
g. The genre makes it difficult for me to determine its relevance and credibility.
h. I can use this to generate questions to direct my readers towards what I want them to learn.
i. I am likely to use this source as a brainstorming tool for more ideas of where i could take my paper.
