Chapters 1

Chapter 1:
How to choose a research topic that is both interesting and appropriate. Firstly recording all sources and staying organized is most important. Next, determine genre (type of document) and design (the appearance of the document) based on your assignment guidelines, audience, ect. Come up with a project timeline to stay on task and help organize your research. Analyze the assignment criteria and your audience to ensure your topic is relevant. Generate ideas/brainstorm using free writing, looping and clustering techniques. And finally consider your position and begin framing your argument.

This can be used in class to help me choose a topic for my final argumentative research paper, and to ensure I have the greatest chance of success. The brainstorming tools such as free writing, looping and clustering will be most useful to me to help me narrow my field of interest. A project timeline will also be very important for me with my paper, as I have a history of procrastination. Which generally is not conducive to writing a decent argumentative research paper.
Framing my argument will probably be the most difficult part of my research project, as I have chosen Easter Island and would like to focus on geographical causes for its collapse or "ecocide." However, all the brainstorming tools outlined in this chapter will help me narrow my subject of interest.
